Duke of New Orleans
wake, rise, walk soon
black where water runs clear
(polish heath scrub vocal chords).

Upward facing dog descends
hard rock face, to slip momentarily
evokes more adrenaline than fear
broken leg rather than death.

Clear it is then
giving the I/eye
a chance to focus:

retinas rise
like Egyptian princess eyelashes

falling into the giving
sinewy branches
into what you see and have seen

say, not plummeting finches
nor blind bugs drawn to headlight
, , , not them.

Diaphanous, no truer diagnosis
dam walls and our future
, , , yes.
